What we cover
Every coverage and limit, in one place.
A complete reference to what a Gun & Trophy policy protects, from the firearm and the trophy to the sub-limits most carriers never spell out. The figures below summarize the master policy. Your Certificate of Coverage and the policy form are what pay a claim.
Core coverage
What a policy protects.
The firearm, the trophy, and the experience behind it, insured on one policy with one minimum premium.
Gun Coverage (Primary Basis)
Insurance provided by the award-winning Hanover Insurance Group. Our policy provides property coverage on a primary basis for loss to an owned gun, so you do not have to involve your homeowner's insurance company in a loss. Homeowners policies typically limit theft of guns to a maximum of $5,000 total (not per gun), and charge between $1.50-$1.80 per $100 in gun value; Gun & Trophy's rate is roughly 1/6 of that. Coverage for non-owned guns (loaners) is on an excess basis: we will pay up to $25k in excess of any valid and collectible other insurance for the loss of a non-owned gun in our insured's care, custody, or control, irrespective of legal liability.
Trophy Coverage (Includes Cost of the Hunt)
The best hunting trophy coverage offered in the U.S.A. Homeowners insurance provides blanket coverage for many trophies but does not reimburse the actual cost of your hunt. Gun & Trophy provides coverage for 350+ animals under the trophy policy and will pay the majority of the cost to replace the hunt. Trophy coverage is provided at stated limits defined in the application and includes the cost of the hunt. Trophies are not covered until they clear U.S. Customs. Trophy/hunt replacement limits are generally 75% of what a hunter spends on a particular hunt.
Guns & Trophies Covered in One Policy
Gun & Trophy Insurance offers gun and trophy insurance on one policy with one policy minimum premium, in partnership with The Hanover Insurance Group. They operate as an independent insurance agency for U.S. Citizens. Coverage includes earthquake and flood coverage and has no coinsurance clause (you are not penalized at the time of loss for under-insuring).
Blanket / Unscheduled Coverage
A quick and easy way to acquire insurance for guns and accessories without providing a list of guns or serial numbers up front. In the event of a loss you must prove ownership. Valuation on a covered loss is 'fair market value.' The maximum paid per item under the blanket/unscheduled format is $10k; items must be scheduled to seek more than $10k for a particular firearm.
Scheduled Guns (Stated Amount)
You schedule the gun and accessories, provide serial numbers, and declare a value. Upon a covered claim we pay up to the amount declared and possibly 25% more (see Insufficiency of Limits). All guns over $10k in value must be scheduled on a stated amount basis. You may upload a spreadsheet of your inventory to save time during the application.
Covered Accessories
Accessories are covered on a 'replacement cost' valuation (actual cash value paid first, with 24 months to replace, then the difference reimbursed). Accessories include: stock and grips, bayonets, flashlights that attach to a covered firearm, barrel-mounted suppressors, sights, scopes, spotting scopes, magnified or non-magnified optics, red dot or reflex sights, holographic sights, lasers, other optics designed for aiming or sighting of firearms, slings, holsters, cases or boxes for carrying/transport of firearms, bipods and tripods for use with covered firearms, magazines, clips, links or other feeding devices, shotgun chokes, sub-gauge tube sets, knives, reloading equipment and binoculars. Class 3 firearms are covered. Accessories do NOT include ammunition, communications equipment, tactical/sporting/hunting apparel or vests, body or plate armor, cleaning supplies, prescription or safety eyeglasses, or archery equipment.
